Capsule Wardrobe

I recently decided to do a capsule wardrobe. Now I am late to the start of this three months but I still wanted to do it now instead of waiting. Since for one I already pretty much had a capsule wardrobe, and two I was only wearing a few items that I loved. Now for the first week I started with about 30 items. I decided to do a little less since I knew that I was sewing some pants and knitting a sweater that I was hoping to add to the capsule wardrobe. We will talk about those two items later. I had two shirts, two jeans, three sweaters, two jackets/coats (I normally use my jackets as coats since I layer anyhow), two dresses, two boots, and the rest was shirts. I refrained from including some accessories due to the fact that I really don't know what I wanted to use. So I did not want to limit myself. I was honestly excited. All the clothing that I picked where things that I loved and wanted. I wanted my star wars tee shirt, I wanted my acid washed gray jeans.
For me I tried to not look at other peoples capsule wardrobe for inspiration cause I felt like it would take away from my own personal style. I would want to look and dress minimal like them instead of like me. That whole black and white wardrobe which I don't know about you but that's not me. I like color, I like graphic tees, and I just like to be me! Anyways back to me capsule wardrobe. It was actually pretty funny. The first few days I was overwhelmed. I did not know what to wear or what I wanted to wear. I thought that was funny since it's said that having less would be better for you having to pick out outfits to wear. I think that for me I wear what I'm in the mood for and I was not in the mood for any of them. After I got over it I was able to pick out outfits and wear things in combination that I would have not otherwise done. It was really fun. I would get up or even the night before and be like I want to wear my blue and white stripe shirt or Star Wars shirt and not feel like oh I'm going to wear this cause I have to but because I want to.
I still only have 30 items instead of 33. I was like I previously mentioned was going to add my sweater that I was knitting and the long black pants that I made. But the sweater did not pan out which is ok. The black pants are great and they fit right but the would be better for the warmer months instead of the colder. So it's going to be in my next capsule wardrobe. I have noticed that I think about other items of clothing that are not in my current capsule so I might add them to the next one. I thought that was interesting since I really was not expecting to feel that way. I thought out of sight out of mind and that was not so. It's funny that as I minimize my closet I'm increasing how much handmade stuff I have. ( I will talk about it more in a later blog post.) For me wanting more handmade stuff helps with having a minimize closet. I am able to create what I want verses what I can only get my hands on. I have more flexibility and joy. I really don't want anyone who is wanting to try capsule wardrobe to be afraid I was. I was like how many stuff do I have to put away or if I want to throw away. But I ended up gaining more than I thought I would. I am able to enjoy my clothing and have fun dressing them up and for me mix and matching them. I hope that you would consider a capsule wardrobe as a new way of looking at what you wear and have fun with it. Don't do what you don't want to. Or wear what you don't want to wear cause every minimalist is wearing that. Be different and stand out. Peace, love, and minimize.
